![]() Packed in less than 100 pages, Kandasamy has poured in her heart, her idealogies, her emotions. There were lot of references that I didn’t understand and had to look up and read on to get the relevance of the reference in context. Like Kandasamy mentions, she brings a lot of herself into their story inadvertently. It is also interesting how the book reflects the current news coming from across the world where we are becoming more aware of racism. ![]() Maya and Karim, full of love yet disjointed from each other owing to their different backgrounds, culture, upbringing and desires form the fictional aspect of the book. ![]() But knowingly/unknowingly she manages to mix her life into the fiction. From that emerged her desire to write something which was in no way related to her, setting it far across. This book emerged as a response to her earlier book When I Hit You where the lines blurred between facts and fiction, with her real life taking precedence over fiction when questioned about it. Kandasamy as a poet shines in where she mixes few lyrical lines in her prose throughout the book. The parallel writings converge here and there losing hint of fiction vs Kandasamy’s life. I picked this book after I listened to her speak in an online literary festival. Unlike anything that I have read before, it has a unique format where in along the story the author’s thoughts are noted in the margin. Also, if you can pull it off: do not make rivals or enemies out of the many women you meet: they will keep the doors open to your yaadum-ooreing, the evenings clement for your yaavarum-keliring.”Įxquisite Cadavers is my first work of fiction, if I may call it so, by Meena Kandasamy. “Yaadum oore, yaavarum kelir, anywhere is home, everyone is kin: to make that happen learn to pack and leave, learn to filter out the superfluous, learn to dodge every fight, learn to trust your kisses, and most of all, learn to ask for help.
